MISSION
The New York Courts Partnership is a group founded by Lee Moulton and Emily Sutton in 2016 to help support the The City Parks Foundation's annual costs of maintaining Manhattan's outdoor public basketball courts.
OUR INSPIRATION
Similar to the "broken window theory", there is a correlation between the missing basketball nets and broken backboards and the negative activity that happen in and around those courts.
These deteriorating courts also help contribute to a sense of "lack" within Manhattan's low-income and at-risk communities, exacerbating the borough's "tale of two cities" myth.
The New York Courts Partnership is steadfast in the belief that our work will help encourage members of our communities to use the courts for what they are meant for, playing the game we all love.
ABOUT THE CITY PARKS FOUNDATION
The City Parks Foundation is a tax-exempt organization and under section 501(c)(3) of the federal tax code, your contributions are tax-deductible to the full extent of the law. City Parks Foundation will be named as the donation recipient on your statement.
Each year, the City Parks Foundation must allocate $115,000 to this expense and our goal is to over those costs in full to support youth and sport in the borough we call home.
Annual Costs:
$48,000 pays for the annual salary of a dedicated city worker
$20,000 pays for annual backboard and rim maintenance costs (paint, nails, wood, etc.)
$5,000 pays for the annual purchase of 2,000 basketball nets to cover full annual need for all outdoor courts in Manhattan
One-Time Costs:
$42,000 pays to purchase a new industrial vehicle that will be used by city worker to travel to and maintain basketball nets, rims, backboards and playing surfaces
