Yael Magen for Marblehead Select Board - New Way for 3A

Donation protected
I am a municipality attorney representing local towns such as, Wakefield, Lynnfield, Rowley, Princeton and more. My daily job is to advise those who manage towns and help each town perform to its ability and unique interest. I judge each issue with facts, legal standard and an objective point of view. I live with my husband Asaf, our 3 children, David sophomore at MHS (varsity soccer/track, JV tennis), Eve 8th grade at MVMS (track/choir) and Leia 3rd grade EHS, my father in our in-law-suite, Sunny our dog, and my brother and nephew live in town. I love this town, history, uniqueness and character and want to preserve it while thriving towards the future.

I believe in a governance that encourages dialogue, discourse and dissent. The best select boards are those who have discussions among them. We need to find ways to be more efficient with our budget and financial decisions, find new ways to increase revenue and grants, and address the big turnover rate and wasteful spending.

I believe in unity and finding common ground. We all might not agree on all the issues, but we all have more in common than we think. It is time to focus on the commonality and bring people together.

I do not support the way 3A is written, because it puts Marblehead at risk. First, it decreases affordable housing from 25% to 10% and only for 6 or more units. Which means a developer can build 4 buildings with 5 units each= 20 units at market rate and 0 affordable housing. Second, all our businesses on Pleasant St. and Village Plaza are at risk of being bought and torn down, and we will lose our restaurants, theaters, markets, coffee shops, and the place where we gather as a community and we will lose our self sufficiency. Third, Marblehead does not have extra land like other towns, and we have very high density. If we do not find a new way for 3A the only people that will benefit are developers and real estate agents and the town is at risk to losing its essence. We need to negotiate with the State and file an exemption or exception, all we need is a willing Select Board. We need to vote No on 3A and then as a Select Board I will file an exemption/exception and negotiate with the State.
A vote for me is a vote for a Select Board member that will judge each issues with facts, legal standard and an
objective point of view, encourage discourse and dialogue, and advance unity in our Town and residents.

My whole life I have been fighting antisemitism and anti-Zionism, and especially these past two years. Advocating and doing pro-bono work for those who have been harassed, fired, assaulted and more because they were Jewish or supported the Jewish State. Organizing events, rallies and educational forums. My son and I have been changing antisemitic curriculum in MHS and K-12 schools around the country. As your select board I will actively fight antisemitism and be your voice and representor, for Jews and non-Jews alike. I will work to adopt the IHRA definition and pressure our district, the house representatives, senators, police, MTA, and DA’s to take action against antisemitism. We need to voice our voices loud and clear. Anti-Zionism is antisemitism and they will not be tolerated in our town, our state or our country.

Vote Yael Magen for Select Board- I will run the town for YOU because that is what I DO!
