Help New Vision Move Their Studio
Donation protected
Edit: The violence in Port-au-Prince caused by the gangs fighting the police has forced Lesly, Honald, and countless others to abandon their homes and leave the city. The gangs are raiding peoples homes, stealing everything, then burning them. Many people have lost everything in their homes. Lesly is currently trying to negotiate permission from the various groups creating blockages so he can move the artwork to the new location before it is burned. Any donations will now have to be redirected from a community workshop to relocation. This will go towards gasoline, tolls, cost of new location, food, and other needs of uprooted New Vision students and their parents.
New Vision Art School is fundraising for a community workshop collaboration with Milor Art School. These workshops provide Port-au-Prince children with a safe place to practice artistic expression, opportunities to sell their art, or gain sponsors. This helps their parents provide food, clothes, housing and school supplies. The Port-au-Prince area suffers poverty and gang violence every day, and these opportunities for young adults to create and provide for theirself is a life-saving alternative to joining gangs.
This project will involve 25 large paintings being created by students from both schools working together. This fundraiser is to bring funds in for the materials for the 25 paintings, food, drinks, and other art supplies. The students will share their knowledge and teach each other new techniques. Honalds brother Lesly will supervise the event. You can help Haitian communities use art to save each other from poverty and violence by donating towards evebts like this or supporting an artist. Art provides a healthy outlet for expressing pains and nightmares. It allows more positive thoughts and feelings to manifest. Lesly, Honald and Milor believe these community events are a major way of influencing the youth to care for each other and avoid gangs. There will be lots of photos, videos, and new art for sale soon after they are able to begin ♥️
