Hi, my name is Meghann, I am currently in Rajasthan in India and have fallen in love with the people here. They are all so kind and loving, and will help you in any way they can!
I visited one families home which was a make shift shelter made out of bamboo stuck into the ground, with tarp sheets wrapped around it and over it, and saris hung up for shade. I noticed lots of holes and gaps and I asked what happens when it rained, and of course they just smiled and said 'we get wet'. (They are the family that I have posted in my previous videos)
I have been to a shop near by to find out how much a new thicker (more industrial long lasting style) tarp would be and it is around 20,000 rupees, so £200 for a well made lasting one. It is 10x10 so will cover a decent sized shelter for the massive family!
A weeks supply of food for a family that big is around £50. I can buy some rice, chapati flour and oil etc in bulk for them all. They're current way of getting food is to beg in the streets. Obviously some times this works, but sometimes they will go without. It would be lush to know I'm leaving pushkar and they have a dry shelter and a stash of food to last them a little while.
If anyone has anything to give, big or small, I would really appreciate it and so will they!
I've been helped alot this year by family and friends and have helped one friend here already, but obviously it's unrealistic to help everyone myself so this is why I am turning to the power of face book!
My main focus will be on families with young children!
Tarps, food, baby formular and blankets are my main priority.
Thanks in advance!
UPDATE:
so far your generosity has bought:
- 3 x new hard wearing industrial tarps
- 3 x large sacks of food for the families (chapati flour, rice, oil)
- 7 x boxes of baby milk formular
- 4 x large double blankets for families with young children.
I am going to keep this page open and update anything else I can get with the donations.
Thanks again!
