New roof for Shirley Burton
Donation protected
Please help longtime islander Shirley Burton replace the roof of her house.
Shirley Burton can still be seen riding her bicycle to town for groceries even though she just had her 85th birthday in June. A 3rd generation islander with generations beyond, she herself never had any children. She graduated from Vashon High School in 1955, then worked as a courier for Western Union delivering telegrams in Seattle. She also worked on the island at both K2 and Wax Orchards. She lives in the log cabin that her mother built in the ‘60’s where she tends her garden and raises goats. When asked how long she’s been raising goats, she replied, “since I was a kid.” She also enjoys doing crossword puzzles.
Vashon Island Community Church and neighbors have started a GoFundMe page for her in an effort to assist her in paying for a new roof. We have already raised a quarter of the needed funds and would like to open it up the community to lend a helping hand to one of our own. Anything brought in above the necessary amount will be donated to the Vashon Food Bank. We thank you in advance for your participation.
