New Orleans Community Fridge Project

Hi y’all! We’re a mutual aid group in New Orleans whose goal is to install and maintain community fridges around the city to support folks experiencing food insecurities. We installed our first fridge on July 23rd 2020, and due to community support, it’s already stocked with fresh food and drinks.   A week later, we already have 3 fridges up and running and more are on the way!

Our hope is that these fridges eventually become self-sustaining;  ideally this means that as a community we stock the fridges, clean them, maintain them, supply them and beautify them.  It also means we take what we need from them!  Food scarcity is a myth.  If we come together there is more than enough to go around.

We’re looking to raise $3,000 to cover the costs of sanitizer dispensers (for safer use in the time of COVID-19), business costs, electric bills, extension cords, a few refrigerators, and other maintenance related costs. Our fridges will be painted by local BIPOC artists, and we will be compensating them for their labor and materials as well. We’re not looking for surplus; any extra money will go directly towards the community fridge project.
