Hello! I’m Julie. I am the caregiver for my mother, Colleen. Many locals remember Mama as the owner of a former Athens, GA “institution”, Gateway Cafe. Loved by customers and employees alike, Mama provided many meals for homeless people over the years and now needs our help. She is 87 and in the mid stages of dementia. Her heat pump is 25+ years old. In he last year, we’ve spent over $500 on repairs. During the sweltering heat of August in GA, it finally quit and would cost nearly $1000 to fix, , even IF parts could be found for a system that old. We’ve installed a window AC to get her thru the last of the summer but she will have no central heating. Because of her dementia, it's very unsafe to have an electric space heater or to use her propane heater that she has for emergency backup heat. Ideally, along with a new heat pump, she needs a WiFi thermostat that I can set and lock remotely from my phone. Thank you fir caring!
