After the devastating Slide Fire of November 2007 two local GVL friends got together in 2010 over a Burrito and a couple beers and decided to improve the corner at the entrance to town from a burned out hulk to a revegataded corner welcoming all who pass with new pine trees, fruit trees and of course our beloved GVL Eagle Carving nick-named "Eddie".
Plans were drawn up, GVL volunteers were recruited, the site was cleared, boulders were brought in, drip irrigation installed and pine trees, fruit trees and flowers were planted. The only thing missing was a town Sculpture. Research was done to find the sculptor that would provide GVL with a one of a kind Carving that would reflect the community spirit of GVL. After much input from many within GVL it was decided that the wood carver, Alex Safonov would carve an Eagle with a trout in his Talons, perched on a branch and preparing itself for flight with its chest puffed out and his head cocked towards the lake. Funds were gathered from the community and the installation of the Eagle Carving was an exciting day well attended by over 100 people.
Unfortunately on May 3rd, 2017 the base of the existing tree trunk from the 2007 Slide Fire which the Eagle Carving was attached rotted and Eddie fell to the street and was rendered unrepairable.
We are asking for your help to pay for Eddies $2,675 replacement which will be a one piece 8 foot tall Cedar Trunk with the Eagle Carved out of the top as an exact replica of the original Eagle Carving. Alex Safonov will once again provide for us a beautiful Eagle Sculpture to stand at the entrance to town. The cost includes the Eagle Sculpture, placement and new cement base to place the Sculpture on so we have a long term solution and no more rotting issues.
The Eagle Sculpture has provided GVL a sense of identity and has been a huge comfort and conversation piece for many of us and I encourage your support in this Go Fund Me campaign to raise the necessary funds to accomplish our financial goal. Funds are needed now as I have paid a $500 deposit to Alex to get us on his scheduale and to purchase the materials he will need. Alex will be done with GVL's Eagle Sculpture about July 10th-15th.
I am very grateful for your help and support in bringing Eddie back to GVL to once agin welcome all who pass by.
Thank you so much,
