Help Us Build a New Home for the Next Generation of Sea Scouts

We are 3rd/5th Lancing Sea Scout Group, a Royal Navy Affiliated Registered Charity offering young people from all backgrounds aged 4 to 14 years old, the opportunity to develop, learn skills for life, and make a positive contribution to their community.

In order to continue offering life-shaping experiences, as well as open more spaces for young people to join, and offer an accessible space for the wider community to gather, it is essential that we build a new headquarters fit for many futures to come.

Welcome to our GoFundMe page!

For generations, 3rd/5th Lancing Sea Scout Group has helped young people across Lancing and the surrounding community grow in confidence, learn practical skills, challenge themselves and make friendships that last a lifetime.

Now, we have an exciting opportunity to secure the future of our Group for generations to come.

We want to build a new £1 million Community Scout HQ!

Our vision is to create a modern, accessible and sustainable home for our young people, volunteers and the wider community — a place where young people can learn, explore, lead and thrive.

Why do we need a new HQ?

Since the early 1980s when 3rd Lancing and 5th Lancing Scout Groups merged, our numbers, community impact and variety of opportunities on offer has grown; our headquarters however has not kept pace.

Our current site, a former World War I army barracks, is now in a poor state, with essential maintenance being completed regularly in order for it to remain safe to use. This limits what we can offer young people and how many people we can support. We want to create a facility that reflects the ambitions of our young people and provides the space, equipment and facilities needed for a modern Sea Scout Group.

The new HQ will provide dedicated spaces for our Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs and Scouts, alongside flexible community spaces, improved storage, activity areas, kitchen and welfare facilities, and accessible facilities for everyone. It will give more young people the opportunity to take part in Scouting, while providing a better base for our amazing volunteers who give their time to make these opportunities possible.

This won't just be a building for Scouting

It will be a community hub!

Our vision is for the new HQ to be used by local community organisations, families, volunteers and other groups, creating a valuable community asset for Lancing and the surrounding area.

Why Sea Scouting matters

Scouting is about far more than badges and activities.

It's about teaching young people how to work as a team, solve problems, overcome challenges, look after others and become confident, capable adults.

As a Sea Scout Group, we can take this even further through activities such as yachting, sailing, powerboating, kayaking, paddleboarding, camping and outdoor adventure.

We want every young person who comes through our doors to leave with memories, friendships and skills that stay with them for life.

Our £1 million challenge

Building a new HQ is an ambitious project, and £1 million is a huge target for a volunteer-led charity!

But we believe that ambitious projects require ambitious action.

We are seeking support from our local community, families, businesses, charitable trusts, foundations and anyone who believes that young people deserve the best possible opportunities.

Every donation, no matter how large or small, will bring us one step closer to making this vision a reality.

Your support could help us:

  • Build a permanent home for generations of local Scouts
  • Expand opportunities for Sea Scouting and water activities
  • Create a sustainable and environmentally conscious community building
  • Improve accessibility and inclusion
  • Give more young people the opportunity to join Scouting
  • Support and develop our incredible volunteers
  • Create a facility that can benefit the wider Lancing community

Help us build something that lasts

A new HQ isn't simply bricks and mortar.

  • It's a place where a child might discover a passion for sailing.
  • Where a young person might find their confidence.
  • Where a volunteer might discover a new purpose.
  • Where friendships are made.
  • Where skills are learned.
  • And where future generations can continue to experience everything that Scouting has to offer.

We are asking our community to help us turn this vision into reality.

Whether you can donate £5, £50, £500 or more, share our campaign, introduce us to a potential sponsor, or simply help spread the word — you can be part of building the future of 3rd/5th Lancing Sea Scouts.
