Hello Friends, I am trying to help two lovely people from Ukraine get settled in their new home city of Ottawa; please read their story below.
As many of you read in the last issue of the Manor Park Chronicle, Iryna Yuchkova and her daughter, Victoria, arrived in Ottawa months ago after fleeing the bombardment of their hometown Ivano Frankivsk in Ukraine.
Dagmara Brunst, a kindhearted Manor Park resident, opened her home to this family fleeing war. They have secured their accommodations and are about to move into their new home. To this end, Iryna and Victoria need our help to furnish it and have all the required household items for daily living. Their new apartment comes with a suite of appliances but nothing else. It is completely bare. They escaped Ukraine with only a few bags of clothing, shoes and some keepsakes. Nearly all their possessions stayed behind as they fled Ukraine to safety in Poland and then Canada.
They will celebrate their first Christmas in Ottawa, far away from their homeland, family and friends who remain in Ukraine. At this time of year, we are called upon to share our good fortune with others who are less fortunate. Giving feels good
Money is tight, with rent being so expensive in Ottawa these days, not to mention inflation. When you think about just the cost to set up a kitchen with the basic items like salt&pepper, sugar, cooking oil, pots and pans, not to mention utensils, please consider donating it to this family in need. $10-$20 isn't much money to most of us, but it represents a lot for this family, esp. if you multiply it many times over. It adds up quickly! My goal is to give them gift cards with any money raised to buy groceries, toiletries, and the basics like towels and bed sheets.
