Never Sleep Again Burning Man camp costs
Donation protected
Fellow Insomniacs,
It is with heavy hearts that we write to inform you of our decision to not participate in Burning Man 2021. The decision was not easy but in order to go to the playa we feel the energy of our camp is most important, and with many people unable to make it this year we think it's best to wait until 2022 to return.
While we do plan to return to the playa in 2022, our camp still remains burdened with annual storage costs from 2020 in addition to storage costs we continue to accrue until we build our camp next year. The total amount that we need to stay afloat with our current debt is $11,031. How this breaks down by storage expense and year is shown below for transparency.
======================================
============== || 2020 || 2021 || TOTAL
BM Container 1 || $1,050 || $1,050 || $2,100
BM Container 2 || $1,050 || $1,050 || $2,100
Emeryville Storage || $2,676 || $2,714 || $5,391
Trailer Parking || $720 || $720 || $1,440
TOTAL || $5,496 || $5,534 || $11,031
======================================
We shamefully have to admit that we did not anticipate such an extended time without our beloved camp. The Never Sleep Again bank account starts to feel like that K hole we usually enjoy so much.
While random gambling winnings and uninformed cryptocurrency investments might keep us afloat, we would love to have a more stable, less volatile way of keeping our camp alive.
That is where you come in!
On an average year ~$50 of every camp member’s fees contribute to the storage costs listed above, and at this time we have to cover 2x years of costs. Our ask is that any NSA Family members who have loved our camp/community and have the ability to contribute, help us get through the past and current year.
Of course, we will not be holding people’s inability to contribute against them.
For those that choose to help, we want to send our deepest gratitude and appreciation in advance. We know times are hard and promise to do everything in our power to ensure our camp is around for years to come. While we may disagree on whether people enjoy seeing penises, we can all agree that our camp’s ability to continue participating in Burning Man to foster a space for community and expression is important. And it’s all of you that make it the perfectly weird place some call H)(ME.
With love (and still dust on all of our shit),
Your NSA Camp Orga Team
