Zwei Vereine – ein Ziel. Wir sind eine Kooperation aus zwei non-profit Vereinen (MIA Pastinaken und Books4Life Wien), die sich für Nachhaltigkeit einsetzen und gemeinsam soziale Verantwortung übernehmen.
Gerade in Wien ist es für Vereine, die ehrenamtlich geführt werden, schwierig, einen Raum zu finden, der leistbar ist. Wir sind nach langer Suche fündig geworden und brauchen nun eure Hilfe um die ersten finanziellen Hürden stemmen zu können.
Doch zuerst stellen wir uns kurz vor:
MIA Pastinaken ist die Lebensmittelkooperative (FoodCoop) Mitten Im Achten. Die FoodCoop besteht aus Personen, die selbstorganisiert biologische Produkte direkt von lokalen Bauernhöfen, Gärtnereien, Imkereien uvm. beziehen und diese dann an ihre Mitglieder weitergeben. Innerhalb der Initiative können also Lebensmittel bestellt und direkt im Lager von MIA Pastinaken abgeholt werden. Die Ziele sind u.a. den Müll innerhalb der Lebensmittelindustrie zu minimieren, einen nachhaltigen Konsum zu fördern und die soziale Distanz zwischen den Produzent*innen und Konsument*innen zu verringern.
Das Books4Life Wien ist ein sozialer Buchladen, der von rund 35 ehrenamtlichen Mitgliedern geführt wird. Leser*innen können ihre Secondhand Bücher dem Books4Life Wien spenden und dort werden die Bücher dann zu einem niedrigen Preis weiterverkauft. 90% des Erlöses gehen an armutsbekämpfende Organisationen wie Amnesty International, die Gruft, Footprint und die Frauenhäuser Wien. Die Ziele des Vereins sind nicht nur die Bekämpfung von Armut, sondern auch die Förderung von Bildung, Umweltschutz durch die Schonung von Ressourcen.
Die beiden Vereine haben sich zusammengeschlossen, um die Kosten für einen Raum zu teilen. Endlich haben wir ein tolles Geschäftslokal gefunden: in der Schlösselgasse 8 im 8. Wiener Gemeindebezirk entsteht ein Ort des gemeinschaftlichen Arbeitens und Wirkens. Das Geschäftslokal bietet der FoodCoop optimale Lagerbedingungen und dem Books4Life Wien einen ansprechenden Shopraum.

We are two non-profit organizations – MIA Pastinaken and Books4Life Wien - working together to support sustainability and contribute to social responsibility.
It has been quite a journey, but after long research, we are happy to announce that we have finally found a suitable working space for both our organizations to rent.
With bureaucracy on our side, we now need your help in order for us to be able to move into our new headquarter!
First things first, let us introduce ourselves:
MIA Pastinaken is a food cooperative based in the 8th Viennese district (MIA stands for Mitten Im Achten, from German “Middle of the 8th”). The food co-op is formed by a group of members which buys regional organic goods from, among others, farmers, market gardens and apiaries on a regular basis. Each member can order the desired amount of the available products. The orders are then delivered to the food co-op by the respective businesses and are handed over to each member.
The food co-op aims to reduce the structural distance between producers and consumers, as well as to support sustainable consumption and waste minimization.
Books4Life Wien is a social non-profit organization and bookstore ran by around 35 volunteers. The concept behind Books4Life is as simple as honourable. Everyone can donate their secondhand books to the store, which will then sell those at a reduced price and donate 90% of the proceeds to NGOs and organizations focused on human rights (i.a. Amnesty International, Die Gruft, Footprint, Frauenhäuser Wien).
Some of the main goals of Books4Life are the valorization and promotion of education, the support of anti-poverty campaigns and the fight for environmental conservation.
MIA Pastinaken and Books4Life have decided to join forces and share a rental property as a mutual office space. We have finally found the perfect space for us in the Schlösselgasse 8 (8th Viennese district). Together we will create a communal working and social space, which will be a perfect goods storage for the food co-op and a welcoming bookstore for Books4Life.
We appreciate any financial help from you and hope to meet you very soon in our new place!
