Network for Palestine

My partner Abigail and I are in Egypt with the intention of supporting Palestinian refugees as much as we are able. Our focus is volunteer work with Network for Palestine. We would ask for any support that you can add.

Network for Palestine is a community aid organisation in Cairo built with refugee Gazans. It has worked with more than 1000 Palestinian families in its six-month life. Its primary function is distributing basic goods and materials to families registered with them. They have a drop-off and distribution network in Cairo handling everything from diapers, shoes, and menstrual health products to food, computers and medicines. There are more than 4,000 families on their wait list. Whilst they are in the process of setting up means of international fundraising, the most direct way we can help is raising their profile and funds for them.

The organisation is doing phenomenal work. Network for Palestine started between one Palestine refugee family and a resident aid worker. Like most Gazan refugees, the family had needed support with almost everything, and Steph (the aid worker) connected them with the basic resources and care. It was then spread by reaching out to other Palestinians, from one family in one room with one bag of clothes, to the more than 7,600 individuals it has served.

Network for Palestine now works with a doctor and psychologist, both from Gaza, and is developing its own program of events and facilities for these families. For context, refugees receive virtually no support from the government, who have been explicit that they see no long term future for refugees in Egypt. Abigail and I will be here at the centre in Cairo. We will use all collected funds to purchase the essentials listed by Network for Palestine in markets in and around Cairo, and be part of distributing them ourselves at their headquarters, so that other team members can focus on their housing, employment, and medical services.

We will be in Cairo for the next two weeks to help and facilitate in person. We hope to be involved in the ways Network for Palestine is developing (in educational support, and long-term projects). Our primary role, however, has to be in fundraising for resources. We are here to provide a direct link in that process, and will donate £500 ourselves. Thank you for being part and contributing what you can to support. Anything, as small as £3, will begin to make a huge difference.

Yours in solidarity,
Noah
