Nepal's Fight Against Hunger and COVID-19
Donation protected
This fundraiser is sponsored by the Nepali Student Associations at Drexel U, CU Boulder, Ohio State U, UVA, Towson U and UMBC to gather and allocate the funds to Feed the Hungry Nepal to support their efforts in providing food and medical supplies to those affected by COVID-19 in Nepal.
Nepal has reported 9,070 new confirmed cases on Thursday, compared with 298 a month ago. According to official figures, more than 3,500 people have died since the pandemic began, 400 of them in the last two weeks alone. While it is difficult to prevent a second wave in the least developed country, the government could have done more to control it. "I think the government is not handling the outbreak well ... the government is more focused on its own politics," Political analyst Surendra Labh.
Kathmandu and other main cities in Nepal have entered a lockdown amid the second wave. To maintain transmission, the government has prohibited all businesses and services from operating. A survey gauging the impact of COVID-19 on Nepali households has revealed that nearly a quarter of families in Nepal are eating less, and 6% said they had run out of food. The reason for this food insecurity is that jobs are lost due to the economic crisis induced by the COVID-19 lockdown. The lockdown for the second wave will lead to an even greater loss of jobs.
Feed the Hungry Nepal is an organization that aims to deliver food and medical supplies. Through the funds they generate, they also aim to cover the communication costs of Covid Connect Nepal so that we can expand their network and provide support to more people in need. Feed the Hungry Nepal is now a legally registered Non-Profit Organization, working towards a hunger-free Nepal. We distribute rations to those stranded by the pandemic and plan to take on the agriculture industry in Nepal by subtracting the mediator from the scene.
