Support Victor: The Soldier Who's Still Fighting

Tax deductible
Everyone deserves the chance to heal, to be heard, and to feel supported—yet too many people in our communities face barriers that make mental health care out of reach. When people can’t access care, entire communities feel the impact. Individuals carry silent pain that could be eased. Families struggle. Isolation deepens.

But when we help someone like Victor receive support, we give him the chance to regain stability, access consistent care, and rebuild the routines and purpose that help him feel grounded again. At FundaMental Health, we believe that access to mental health care shouldn’t depend on income, background, age, or circumstance—and your support brings that belief to life.

MEET VICTOR: THE SOLDIER WHO’S STILL FIGHTING
At 42, Victor carries both pride and pain from his years in service. After two tours in Iraq, coming home should have meant safety, but instead the transition to civilian life was harder than he ever imagined. Stability has felt impossible to achieve, due to difficulty finding and maintaining employment, spending nights in a shelter or in his truck, lack of resources, self-medicating with substances, and ongoing trauma and behavioral health challenges. Victor is proud to have served his country, but this came at a cost to his mental well-being and ability to function. Victor’s behavioral health challenges have prevented him from maintaining the motivation and consistency necessary to access and navigate the health care system.

His sister has been a light through his difficult return home. She calls him often which gives him strength, but she lives too far away to provide the level of support he truly needs. He used to find peace in simple routines, like reading history books, fishing, and tackling a crossword puzzle, but lately the weight of daily struggles has made it hard for him to enjoy the things he once loved.

What Victor longs for most is a path back to stability: steady work and a place to call home. When he’s no longer worrying about survival, he can finally start to focus on rebuilding his mental and emotional well-being.
