Your neighbors are struggling to afford the mental health care they deserve. You can help change that.
Every community has neighbors who are quietly struggling with their mental health. You might pass them at the grocery store, sit next to them on the bus, or share a fence. They might be your coworkers, your friends, or your family.
Everyone has a story, and every story deserves to be heard. Mental health challenges don’t always look the same—sometimes they’re hidden behind a persistent smile, a brave face, a busy schedule, or the quiet strength it takes to keep showing up for others. Everyone's story may look different, but their challenges are often the same: finding or affording the high-quality care that they need and deserve.
Neighbors in Need shares their stories with care and compassion. Each neighbor represents the people that FundaMental Health serves, and someone you likely know in your own life. They’re the people at the heart of our mission: people facing real barriers to care, from cost and access to stigma and support.
Through these stories, we hope to inspire empathy, connection, and action—because when we come together for one another, we can make access to care a reality.
MEET THE NEIGHBORS
The neighbors you’ll meet here represent the types of people FundaMental Health serves—people from your own community. As you read their stories, we encourage you to think about who these neighbors remind you of in your own life, and how your support would make an impact.
Alex: The Young Adult Finding Their Way
Alex is figuring out who they are while managing the weight of anxiety and the pressures of growing up. Between school, relationships, and trying to stay afloat, mental health often takes a backseat—until it can’t anymore. Therapy feels out of reach and navigating insurance is confusing, but Alex is eager to get mental health care and is ready to accept help where she can find it.

Victor: The Soldier Who’s Still Fighting
Victor once served his country proudly. Now, he’s fighting a quieter battle—one that doesn’t end when the uniform comes off. Trauma and stress run deep, the VA counseling services have absurdly long waitlists, and not having a stable job or place to call home can make getting mental health care feel like another impossible mission. Victor has always been resilient and this fuels his determination to heal, despite the very real barriers he's facing.
Does Victor's journey remind you of someone? Read more about his story here.
Rosa: The Caregiver Who Needs Care
Rosa has always been the one others rely on—caring for family, grandchildren, and her community. But after years of putting everyone else first, she’s realizing she needs help too. With her adult children out of the house and her husband recently passed, she is lacking the support she needs to help navigate her retirement benefits and MediCal care options. Accessing care feels overwhelming, but Rosa knows she can’t pour from an empty cup.
Have you known someone like Rosa? See how you can care for her how she cares for others here.

- Average cost for a full course of treatment (20–30 sessions): $3150
In addition to directly funding mental health care for individuals in need, a portion of each donation supports the operational and technology resources that keep FundaMental Health running strong—so we can continue showing up for more neighbors, more families, and more communities.
