Necessity Packs for the GTA
Toronto, ON is the most populated city in Canada, with over 2.5 million people calling it home. However, it also has the largest population of people experiencing houslessness or housing-insecurity. On any given night, upwards of 10,000 Torontonians experience houselessness.
Just weeks ago, the City of Toronto forcefully evicted houseless folks from their homes and shelters inTrinity Bellwoods Paul, an action that unfortunately is not isolated. The municipal, provincial and federal governments have refused to offer substantial assistance to individuals experiencing houselessness, rarely even providing basic necessities.
The Divinity Project has close connections to both Toronto and the GTA, which is why we have decided to put together basic necessity packs for folks in the city. These packs will include items such as socks, toothbrushes, deodorant, wet wipes, water bottles and hand sanitizers.
Homelessness is not a crime, and it is appalling that the basic needs and rights of those experiencing houselessness or housing-insecurities are being ignored at every level of government.
