Ayúdame a ganar esta batalla: Luchando contra la diabetes y la insuficiencia renal

Mi nombre es Gerlymar Barrios, soy venezolana y actualmente vivo en Atlanta, Estados Unidos, desde hace 5 años.

Desde los 9 años de edad, he vivido con Diabetes Mellitus tipo I, una condición que transformó mi vida para siempre. Lo que comenzó con desmayos, sed incontrolable y un cuerpo debilitado, pronto se convirtió en un diagnóstico que marcó el inicio de una larga lucha por mi salud… y por mi vida.

Con el paso de los años, la diabetes fue cobrando factura: hipertensión, pérdida de visión, baja audición… hasta llegar a un punto crítico: insuficiencia renal severa. Hoy, mi mayor esperanza es un trasplante de riñón, que no representa una cura, pero sí una nueva oportunidad de vida.

Actualmente, me encuentro en la búsqueda activa de un donante de riñón compatible. Esta es una parte muy delicada del proceso, llena de incertidumbre, pero también de fe. Sé que en algún lugar hay alguien que puede darme esa oportunidad de seguir viviendo.

A pesar del dolor, las limitaciones físicas y la soledad emocional que a veces acompaña a esta enfermedad, sigo aquí: trabajando, luchando y creyendo. Estoy agradecida porque aún puedo valerme por mí misma, y tengo un deseo profundo: vivir con salud para cumplir mi propósito, abrazar a mi familia, alcanzar mis metas y seguir ayudando a otros.

La diálisis me mantiene estable, pero el tiempo es crucial. Por eso, hoy más que nunca, necesito tu apoyo.

Los fondos recaudados se destinarán a:

• Evaluaciones médicas y preparación para el trasplante

• Medicamentos, tratamientos y seguimientos antes y después del procedimiento

• Traslados, consultas y cuidado postoperatorio

• Apoyo emocional y logístico durante todo el proceso

Help Me Win This Battle: Fighting Diabetes and Kidney Failure

My name is Gerlymar Barrios, I’m Venezuelan, and I’ve been living in Atlanta, United States, for the past 5 years.

Since the age of 9, I’ve lived with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus, a condition that changed my life forever. What began with fainting spells, uncontrollable thirst, and a weakened body quickly turned into a diagnosis that marked the beginning of a long journey for my health… and for my life.

Over the years, diabetes has taken its toll: high blood pressure, vision loss, hearing loss… until reaching a critical point: severe kidney failure. Today, my greatest hope is a kidney transplant. It’s not a cure, but it’s a new chance at life.

I’m currently in the active search for a compatible kidney donor. This part of the process is delicate and uncertain, but I face it with faith. I believe that somewhere out there, someone may be willing to give me the chance to keep living.

Despite the pain, physical limitations, and emotional loneliness that often accompany this condition, I’m still here—working, fighting, and believing. I’m grateful that I can still care for myself, and I hold a deep desire to live in health, fulfill my purpose, embrace my family, reach my goals, and continue helping others.

Dialysis keeps me stable for now, but time is critical. That’s why, now more than ever, I need your support.
