In 2016, I turned my lifelong passion into purpose.
With no outside funding and nothing but my savings, I opened a community boxing club — built from the ground up with love, grit, and a deep belief in second chances.
My goal was simple: to create a space where young people could grow stronger, more confident, and stay off the streets.
Boxing changed my life as it gave me structure during challenging times and taught me self-belief when I had little else. I knew that if boxing could do that for me, it could do the same for others — so I poured everything I had into making my vision a reality.
Since day one, the club has been open to everyone. I have trained and mentored hundreds of young people, some from challenging backgrounds, and offering free sessions, equipment, and endless support. I have never turned anyone away. Since this club is not just a gym — it is a lifeline, a safe space, and a family.
My dedication extends far beyond the ring:
Recently I have taken up regular visits to local care homes, offering light boxing-inspired movement sessions to residents living with dementia, Alzheimer’s, and other illnesses. My visits bring smiles, laughter, and energy — helping residents stay active, engaged, and feel seen. Staff say these sessions brighten their entire week. And I do this all while caring full-time for my own mum, who is now also living with advanced dementia and Alzheimer’s.
Despite the emotional and financial strain of caregiving, I am fighting to keep the boxing club alive — and dreaming to grow it further.
I have begun organising local boxing events, using them to raise funds, build community, and give my boxers a chance to step into the spotlight. My dream is to see each of them put on a show, to use their skills with pride, and stand tall in front of their families and friends — not just as fighters, but as confident individuals who have grown through discipline and dedication.
I know now I cannot do this alone.
Right now, the club is under pressure. With limited time, rising costs, and the demands of full-time caring, it’s becoming harder for me to do it all — even though I still try my hardest not to give up, and to show the spirit that I try to teach all my members.
I am asking for funding to help with the following:
Funding towards new flooring, as this needs replacing as the original one that I placed is now warn and is starting to become a hazard.
Support the costs of running community boxing events, giving young boxers something to aim for and feel proud of.
Relieve the financial pressure I am facing, since no longer working full time and becoming a full-time career for my mum.
To keep the boxing club running and open to all, especially those who need it most.
I have never stopped giving to our youth, our elders, our community, though I now must ask for a bit of support back in whatever way you can.
Pls Help the Community be part of our goal to raise money to improve our community club
