It is with great pleasure that I will represent the USA at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. My sport is badminton (the fastest racket sport in the world). I have been involved in badminton for forty years as a player, coach, official and administrator. After a year-long application process, I have been approved to work the Olympic badminton event at RioCentro by the Rio Olympic Committee. I am a volunteer and as such will only be provided a uniform and credentials. The expense of transportation, food and lodging are my reponsibility. I was a volunteer at the 2004 Olympics in Athens, Greece and learned a valuable lesson. The best laid plans can and will go wrong. The family that was to host me in Athens left after the first night, leaving me to find places to live for the two weeks I was there. I slept in the airport, office floors, and in various places that were dangerous to my safety. Needless to say, I desire a safer and more enjoyable experience while working at the Olympics this time.
The Rio Olympics start August 5 and finish August 21. The privilege of representing my country and my sport is a wonderful honor. Financially the trip is a tremendous challenge on my family's resources. Any support that you give will be greatly welcomed.
