Therapy Fund for the Black Community
Donation protected
We reached our goal! We are overwhelmed with the response received seemingly overnight. Although we are receiving more requests to donate, we as a NBPOC + Black collective wellness clinic have decided to humbly end the fundraiser where it currently stands.
In solidarity with #blacklivesmatter and #blackouttuesday, we want to make sure that we are supporting our Black therapists, our clients and our Toronto community at large. As such, we would like to be completely transparent about the distribution of funds.
1. We are making a donation of $2569 CAD from the funds raised to support Women’s Health in Women’s Hand, a reputable local organization that has been providing mental health support to Black and NBPOC communities since 1987. We encourage you to continue supporting them.
2. The remaining funds ($10 000 CAD) will allow the Black therapists on our team (Melissa & Alisha) to provide free & timely accessible therapy services to the Black community. This means no wait-lists, as is often the case for free/low-cost mental health services in Toronto and the GTA. This decision was made in consultation with said therapists and the WellNest team, in light of current events.
If you are a Black identifying client interested in beginning therapy with our clinic, please e-mail us at info@well-nest.ca with the subject line: Black Mental Health Fund. Due to the rapid success of this fundraiser, our team is currently working on managing the fund and scope of services provided. We will be in touch with interested clients directly in the near future about next steps.
Finally, if you would like to donate more but were unable to contribute to this fundraiser, please consider instead donating your funds to the following reputable, Black organizations in Toronto and the GTA:
TAIBU Community Health Centre
The Most Nurtured
Across Boundaries
