Newburgh Armory Unity Center Community Garden is located at the Newburgh Armory at 321 S. William Street in Newburgh, NY. There are currently 47 garden plots in various sizes which include 4 x 10, 4 x 20 raised and in ground beds available for rent each season.
We are a nonprofit garden that serves a diverse community which connects people to nature and locally grown food. The NAUC has partnered with Cornell Cooperative Extension Orange County to assist in establishing the garden and providing garden assistance and education for the community via the Master Gardener Program.
NAUC is committed to hands on education with focus on gardening, eating healthy and caring for our environment for all ages. In the past our harvests were shared within the Newburgh Armory Unity Center and Meals on Wheels. During Covid19 the need for access to fresh and local food has grown. Families have rented beds and have been able to fill their needs but also share with their neighbors. We also been able to help meet the needs of our community by using the unrented to grow food and share. To date we have shared 1000 lbs of fresh produce.
We have been educating and growing food for 6 seasons. Some of our infrastructure needs to be replaced. We currently have 18 wooden raised beds that we would like to convert to cinders. We now have potable water in the garden and we are investigating putting in an irrigation system, something better then dragging 100 feet of hose. With our plan to become a four season garden, more maintenance and oversight is required. Please consider supporting The Newburgh Armory Community Garden.
