National Mother's March Against Police Brutality

LaTonya Floyd, George Floyd’s sister said at a press conference recently, “When Floyd said “I can’t breathe” and called for his mother. He was calling for all of us mothers. All of us!”

 We have heard his cry!

In the wake of the killing of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and countless others by police, there has been a public outcry for reform and justice, particularly in Minneapolis. We know that this is not a new phenomenon, and has impacted the lives of countless families especially Black families, throughout the country.

As we continue this fight for justice, Take A Knee Nation a coalition of families and anti-police violence activists from around the country including locally MN Families supporting Families against Police and the Justice Squad will be hosting the weekend of July 11&12 a weekend for the families victimized by police violence.

On Saturday, July 11, 2020 the families will attend a retreat with workshops including "Dealing With the Trauma of Losing a Loved One to Police Violence," "Do's and Dont's of Organizing For Families," and "How Do I Tell My Story."

The weekend will conclude with the National Mothers March against Police Violence on Sunday July 12 starting at 12:00 pm noon at Dale and University in St.Paul and marching to the MN state capitol.

This weekend will be a powerful visual to show the gravity of lives that continue to be impacted by police violence, and this is an opportunity for us as a community to rally behind those that have lost their children to this plague of injustice, and keep up the pressure to demand change.

Unfortunately, due to financial restraints as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic, many of the families cannot afford the trip on their own. So, we are asking the community to assist them in being part of this action.

We expect lots of families to attend, and we are looking to subsidize 100 mothers who could not otherwise attend (the number of families affected by the scourge of police violence is quite high) so we are asking for $40,000 - $400 for each mother - to cover travel, lodging and food expenses for one night.

Won't you help us help them in standing together against police violence?

Take A Knee Nation is well known for bringing the impact of police violence on families to the attention of the nation during its Take A Knee Conference during the Super Bowl weekend in 2018 in Minneapolis.
