I am Vanessa Pohley and there is a good chance many of you know my mom, Natalie Pohley. Throughout my life I have grown up watching my mom give back and provide to her community. She has created countless programs that have served people of all ages.
Currently, she has been facilitating anti-bully programs, teen discussion and life skills groups, a free writing class for young people, and urban arts in juvenile hall. She works in several Placer County Schools and After School Programs teaching young people how to be kind to one another and navigate life successfully. As if a million programs in Auburn aren’t enough, she is helping expand these valuable programs to Rocklin and Lincoln as well. To top it off 90% of these programs are free and she never turns away someone who can’t pay, if there is a cost.
I have always wondered how my mom has been so consistent in following her philanthropic dreams with a huge lack of self-funding, while still providing for her family. She works 6, probably 7 days a week on creating, developing, funding and facilitating her programs, living check to check sometimes wondering where the nexts months money will come from. She has dedicated her life to her community.
On a personal level, my mom has clothed students in need for their first day of school, provided laptops for struggling college students, and she has even given cars away to people in need.
Ok, ok, we get it. Natalie Pohley gives back to her community. But, why have I started a go fund me? Well, you should see the car she drives to her meetings and programs in. Although, Casandra the Sludge Bucket has really been a trooper throughout the years, she has become an extremely unsafe car for my mom to be constantly driving, especially now that the programs are expanding into other parts of Placer County
My mom’s birthday is today, April 13 and I cannot express to you that all I want to do is spend all my money to buy her a safe reliable car that she can drive around in and save the world, LOL! But, I just can't do that. So I thought to myself..I wonder how many other people in the community and in our family are feeling the same way. I know there has to be some! So I have decided to provide our community with an easy way to give back to my mom. I know it sounds cheesy, but it is true.
All the money raised will go towards a new car for my mom to drive home safe from all the community support, activities and programs she does throughout the week.
So, can you help my mom drive home safe?
