Nantucket Together - Stop ACK Now

Welcome to Nantucket Together. We are a grassroots coalition in response to ACK-NOW's Citizen's Warrant, which proposes to restrict the rental property rights of all Nantucket property owners.  We are comprised of concerned taxpayers (year-round & part-time residents) who rent their homes, the business community, and those who love island-w/ a common goal to preserve Nantucket's way of life & economy and find a positive way to help diminish the affordable housing crisis.

In 2021, we, along with other other groups, were successful in defeating Article 90 by a 2-1 margin at Annual Town Meeting but ACK Now has committed to continue to bankroll challenges and lawsuits against the Zoning Board and the town.  Although the town plans to modify zoning to define short term rentals specifically as a permitted use and enact some type of regulation (and public input will be solicited), ACK Now has submitted yet another citizen's warrant for 2022.

The 2022 ACK NOW citizen's warrant continues to discriminate against part-time resident homeowners, requiring only them to apply to the Zoning Board of Appeals for a special permit that allows accessory use of their home as a short-term rental.  Year round residents would have no restrictions and short term rentals would be explicity permitted for them in residential zoning areas. Town Counsel has documented several concerns with this proposal.  So our work this year includes opposing this divisive 2022 ACK Now citizen's warrant article and working to ensure any zoning bylaw changes proposed by the town are equitable, reasonable, fact-based and achieve a stated goal without negative unintended consequences for property owners.

At the request of many, we have created this GoFundMe account as an opportunity for concerned Nantucket taxpayers to contribute to the administrative costs associated with our media campaign to get the word out.  We are thankful for any donation you can give, including volunteering your time and skills,

When our work is done, any remaining funds will be donated to Nantucket non-profits, along with a financial accounting.  Note that we are completing paperwork for a Section 501(c)(4) designation as a tax-exempt social welfare organization but donations under that designation are not tax deductible.
