Hi, I'm Jasmine (18), and I'm working with my older brother Irvine (21) to raise money for a special cause. Our parents are from two very different countries, so we've seen both extreme wealth and extreme poverty. We're grateful for the life we've been given and want to help those in our maternal home country, Malawi. The people there are some of the kindest you'll ever meet, but they lack the opportunities we've had.

Malawi has recently suffered devastating floods, largely due to deforestation caused by using wood for cooking and other daily needs. To address this, we researched environmentally friendly alternatives and found Ecogen, an organization that makes biogas systems. We wanted to find a location that would benefit most from a biogas unit. Our family has a farm in Chikombe, and we often pass Nakaledza Secondary School. We've gotten to know the teachers there and learned that a biogas system would be a huge help, especially for the boarding students.

This project is important not only for the environment but also for the school. It will give students hands-on experience with renewable energy and show them how it's a better option than cutting down trees. The biodigester's liquid waste can also be used in the school garden to grow vegetables for the boarding students.

Additionally, we plan to support the school in establishing a tree nursery to grow their own seedlings, further promoting reforestation and environmental sustainability.

All funds raised will go directly to purchasing the biogas system from Ecogen and building a kitchen next to it so the school can use the gas for cooking.

How the funds will be used

As you expect, 100% of the funds will go to the school.

With the majority of the funds going into building the biogas system, and the rest into creating a kitchen where students can cook. In the kitchen, we will provide all necessary equipment.
