Hello and Salaamalaikum! We are a group of inspired friends and family members who during the Covid pandemic have come together with a common purpose in mind. Namely, Naheed Khaja, Noshi Khawaja, Samira Sheikh, Jahan Yousaf, and Iman Sheikh. We have been planning together from across the seas with our friends based in the rural village in Chitral, Pakistan, to develop and sustain a non-profit wellness clinic that offers essential medical services for the locals.
The project addresses issues that are very close to our hearts, and we are proud to say that the clinic has been operating and serving the community since January 2021. Our services currently include ultrasound examinations, general health check-ups, free distribution of medicine, and hygiene seminars.
WHAT IS MISSION FOR THE CLINIC?
The mission of Nagar Women's Health House is to enrich and empower local members of the community to live healthier lives by offering personalized medical services.
THE VISION
Gynecological exams, post and pre-natal care, distribution of menstrual supplies, and educational workshops are some of the free services that Nagar Women’s Health House aims to provide for the local community.
WHY THE WOMEN AND CHILDREN IN NAGAR, PAKISTAN?
Nagar is a small village located in the region of Chitral, Pakistan. Because of Nagar’s remote geographic location, with undeveloped, rugged roads, and a grueling journey through the mountains, the village has had very little connection with the rest of Pakistan. Because of this, the region gets left behind, with limited access to resources and infrastructure, let alone extreme poverty. There are no NGOs offering consistent crisis relief efforts or development support to Nagar; it is simply not on the map for them.
According to insight from our local collaborators, there are many myths and taboos around menstruation and reproductive care. This has led to fatal hygiene mis-management, disease and infection, birth complications, shame, and emotional suffering. This directly affects a girl’s ability to attend school, economic opportunity, confidence, autonomy, dignity, participation in the community, and beyond. There is no doubt that creating balance by uplifting some of the most vulnerable members of the community will positively impact the emotional, economic, and social wellbeing of the entire village.
