The swim community is often competitive and insular, but when tragedy strikes, we're the first to come together and support one another. The wildfires at the beginning of January, which struck the heart of LA and it's surrounding communities, took out 10,000+ structures and left homeless thousands of families and some were fellow swim families. Due to the time of evacuations, these athletes and their families ran out of their homes with only slippers on or just their bare feet and are in need of some basic necessities to get them back up and "swimming."
The GoFund Me fundraiser that MVN is undertaking is to cover basic necessities to get them back into their routines and to bring some normalcy to their lives as they grapple with this life altering event. Many of our swim friends are living in hotels and heading to temporary rentals in the next few weeks and will be in dire need of supplying whole households worth of goods (clothing, toiletries, etc). Our hope is to raise funds to split amongst the displaced families who've lost everything, so they may buy what they need to get their households back to normal and to get our competitors/friends back in the pool and to see them on the decks soon.
Please consider donating any amount and help our fellow swimmers and their families as they move through this tragedy.
PS: All proceeds will be used at retail stores for apparel, toiletries and swim/dryland gear needs as requested by the families in need.
