What is more important than water?

In a Maasai village located in the Lobosoit village, Simanjiro District, Manyara region, Tanzania, the struggle for survival is a daily reality. The community barely has enough water to meet their basic needs. Women are forced to walk 20 kilometers three times a week, carrying heavy water jugs on their backs. This difficult task takes time away from their families and their kids' education.

In the summer of 2024, Mercedes and her family met Daniel during a safari. He shared heartbreaking stories about his mother’s village, where the lack of water has become increasingly dire due to global warming.

Daniel comes from a large family—he is the son of a prominent Maasai leader with eight wives and 45 brothers and sisters—but he is unique in that he was able to attend school, study Tourism, and work as a safari driver. Despite his success, Daniel couldn’t bear to see his mother, his community, and the children around him suffering from both water scarcity and limited educational opportunities. For him, the two issues go hand in hand.

He has dreamed of changing this situation for many years, but despite his efforts, he often felt powerless.

When Mercedes and Daniel met, after Mercedes had an accident they immediately bonded. They spent many hours talking meanwhile the others went on excursions. After 7 days together, they were inspired by Daniel’s determination to help his community despite his young age. After visiting the village together, they realized they needed to take action. They decided to create awareness and launch a fundraising campaign to bring water from a government well and establish a nursery school.

Together, they created the Nabulu Project—a mission to bring clean water from a government well and establish a nursery school for the village. This initiative aims to provide more than just resources; it offers hope and a chance for the children to dream of a brighter future.

STEPS:

• FIRST STEP: BUY the pipes to carry water from the Government well (1 kilometer away) to the village.

PRICE: $6,000

The local government has given Daniel written permission to transfer water from their well 1 km away to the village.

• SECOND STEP: Complete the infrastructure to transfer the water, which includes covering the engineer’s fee of $18,000.

• THIRD STEP:The reminder is for building the school.

La comunidad apenas tiene suficiente agua para satisfacer sus necesidades básicas. PASOS:

• PRIMER PASO: Comprar las tuberías para llevar agua desde el pozo del gobierno (a 1 kilómetro) hasta el pueblo.

PRECIO: $6,000

El gobierno local ha dado permiso, a Daniel, por escrito para transferir agua desde su pozo a 1 km de distancia hasta el pueblo.

• SEGUNDO PASO: Completar la infraestructura para transferir el agua, lo que incluye pagar la tarifa del ingeniero de $18,000.
