Building a community project in Lochinvar, Zambia
Donation protected
Supporting Youth, Health & Faith related community development in an area of great need. We will be focusing for three key areas:
1) Local building project
2) Building trust and a shared journey with SALT inclusion with the Lochinvar and Twa communities
3) Upskilling the youth community with construction skills
Here is how this journey began and how you can play a part.....
Ian Campbell, Jon Everett & Elvis Simamvwa (all of Affirm), visited in Feb’22, and were introduced by Mark Hampande, the Lochinvar National Park Ranger, to Ruth Kalukangu, who is the Head Teacher & the school pupils.
The strong community relationships were evident by the inclusion of 100 pupils from the Twa community & the families further afield.
Ruth raised her concern about safe clean dormitory and toilet facilities for the children from distant communities, especially the Twa. The Twa children board at the school & use a basic shelter for sleeping. A basic Ministry of Health clinic is locally available 8 km from the school, which needs upgrading.
We reflected on the interaction, and have initiated the ‘Many Hands’ project out of respect & appreciation of what has been achieved & to help address current practical challenges of the school & local community.
Many people are organising fundraising events, as well as generously donating financially to this cause in order to help us raise the £31,000 target. So far these events have been planned:
- 2023/24 New Year’s Eve Celebration
- Isle of Wight Run/Ride/Walk Feb 25th 2024
- Zambia Pop Concert
- Lands End to John ‘O’ Groates Cycle
- Pen Y Fan Mountain Walk (Woking Youth)
(Contact us if you would like to run an event)
You are welcome to join us on a journey to see this community transformed.....
