Hello everyone, I am Stephen Unwin and it is my goal to raise as much money as I can for Macmillan Cancer Support, I don't really have a financial goal or target, so long as I raise something, that will be enough.
My beautiful sister Mandy died in 2004 from Cancer, she was only 50. When she was originally diagnosed she sat in the kitchen of my house and shaved her own head, because she didn't want to go through the process of gradually losing her hair from the treatment that was to follow.
At the same time, her husband and my other brother in law, shaved their heads as well, I didn't, because to me personally it was accepting that there was a possibility of losing her.
Ever since that fateful day I have felt that I need to do something. So in May 2024, I had my very last haircut, I was retiring in June the same year and told everyone that I was never getting my hair cut again. But the reason was my secret, I intended to see how long I could grow it and then donate the hair to a charity who provide wigs for cancer patients, and that was basically my whole plan.
As a Royal Navy veteran, I was constantly being harangued and badgered because of the length of my hair by my friends and other veterans, so much so, one even walked me to a barbers shop and suggested I make an appointment. It was at that point I decided to let everyone one know that I wasn't actually becoming a heavy metal OAP rebel and reveal my secret plan.
Now that I have, it is time ladies and gentlemen, a term I use lightly, for some of you to cough up and pay the piper, you've all had your micky taking fun at my expense for over 18 months.
When will it happen?
Today I am announcing the 'Cut Off Date', it will be late August and it will be live streamed.
My Brother in Law Russell and his fantastic wife Rona, have generously offered to do the deed at their Aveda Salon, William Charles Hair Design, in Tenterden Kent.
Macmillan nurses looked after my sister in her final weeks at home and made her life , as short as it was, very comfortable and pain free. I can never thank them enough for their dedication, empathy and understanding.
Every penny I raise will go to Macmillan so that they can continue to provide the end of life care that a lot of people so desperately need.
My Hair
My hair will be donated to the Little Lady Locks who make wigs for children suffering from Cancer❤️
