Uniting for Ukraine
Donation protected
Dear Friends,
Over the past year, it's been painful to watch the war in Ukraine unfold, and like many of you, Max and I found ourselves watching the horrors on TV and feeling helpless. Recently, those feelings have shifted to action as we have decided to sponsor a Ukrainian family under a federal program called Uniting for Ukraine. It is a streamlined process that allows people fleeing the war to seek refuge in the United States on a temporary basis known as humanitarian parole.
Olesia and Mykola have two boys, ages 6 and 2. Their city is being shelled by Russian rockets, often leaving them without electricity, heat, or water. Schools and offices are often interrupted by air raid sirens while residents are evacuated to shelters. The street outside their home is occupied by armored tanks. It is no place to raise two little boys.
As sponsors we have committed to providing them with shelter, clothing, groceries, transportation, medical needs not covered by insurance and anything else they may need. My mother's house has been vacant since her death just over a year ago and with it situated just across the driveway from our own home, on our farm in Unity, Wisconsin, it seems like the perfect safe haven for this deserving family.
While the house has been well maintained, there will be ongoing expense in providing utilities including heat, electricity, cell phones and internet service. We are located roughly 12 miles from the nearest town so transportation will also be critical. We anticipate costs associated with securing a vehicle, car insurance and fuel.
Many people have asked how they can help. We have set up this page for that very reason. All contributions will be used to meet the day-to-day needs of this family while providing them with a safe, warm home to raise their children. The ultimate goal is for Olesia and Mykola to receive work authorizations and secure gainful employment, but until then, they'll need to rely heavily on our sponsorship. We are grateful to have this beautiful farm and all of its bounty to share, but welcome any additional contributions.
Thank you,
Bryce and Max Luchterhand
