Freedom, an incarcerated, Black abolitionist organizer, will be coming home in 2023! We, his friends, are raising money for his release. In his own words:
My name is Freedom and I’m nearing the end of a long sentence. I’ve been in the belly of the beast for 17 years fighting the oppression and abuse incarcerated people endure daily. During my time incarcerated I was placed in solitary several times for organizing my fellow prisoners. I continue to sit in solitary confinement as I write this for being setup by a corrupt “correction” officer five days before being released to a halfway house. This officer’s remark spoke volumes when he said: “Wow! They’re letting ‘you’ go…not on my watch?” An hour later I was locked up in solitary confinement where I remain fourteen months later. Going to this halfway house would’ve given me an opportunity to save money for my release on May 31, 2023. My goals coming home are precious to me. My plan is to save funds and buy a dump truck and start a local hauling company: “We Haul It All.” I need some help financially getting my life back in order. I’m residentially impaired as of this writing. I’m having issues with housing and might be paroled to a homeless shelter upon release, so I have a ton of obstacles on day one of release. The main issues I’m facing is clothing, shoes, food, and shelter. In prison, there’s no 401k, no savings plan, or any retirement pension, so I’m reaching out to the free world for financial support. I will continue the work I do behind this wall out in the free world. I want to succeed and enjoy what life has to offer. Any donations will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!
The struggle continues,
Freedom
Freedom’s study group Thinking for a Chance has continued in the many prisons in which he has been caged. Freedom works with others inside to engage the deep tradition of Black Power, drawing on radical, abolitionist writings to resist the dominant carceral and colonial narratives of white supremacy.
Like many other people coming home after incarceration, Freedom’s priority is housing. From the funds collected, Freedom’s goal is to find a place to live that is adequate to his needs, affordable, and near his family. If you know of good options in central/north New Jersey, don’t hesitate to reach out to us directly!
Any and all support is appreciated.
