Father-Son Mission Trip to Honduras

A Simple Life Lesson: Service
Service was not a quality I was born with - it was something I witnessed others doing and eventually learned.  Some amazing mentors in my life demonstrated not just the action, but also the purpose of service.  Serving others has taught me to love and value others.  It's like Paul explained to the church in Galatia - "the only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love." (Gal. 5:6b)

Gaining a Global Perspective
The United States is a blessed country with amazing liberties, opportunities, freedoms, and wealth.  When I first left my comfortable life to serve others in another country, my perspective of "bare necessities" required for happiness was shattered and rebuilt in just 5 days while in Guatemala.

Catalyst for Change
I used to think that younger generations were lazy, apathetic, spoiled, and even incapable of caring for others - much less serving others.  Now I recall being a part of the "younger generation" that was self-centered. What was my catalyst for change - when did my heart and mind open to needs and service opportunities around me?  My first mission trip changed me forever.

My Observant Son
George is going to be 10 years old this year and for the past few years he has always asked, "Why do you go on mission trips?"  My words always fail to tell the complete story.  So this year - George will go with me to learn how to express his faith through love, how to rebuild his perspectives, and how to be a catalyst for change in his generation.
