For a Brighter Future

After moving back to brazil a year ago, in Rio de Janeiro, I had the chance to meet some incredible children who have touched me with their joy and innocence while living in some very challenging conditions of poverty and vulnerability. Together with the kids, I also met Jacson Lima, born in the favela of Morro dos Prazeres, and his mother, who for 30 years have been running a very simple but impactful program called escolinha, or, “Little School”. By engaging the children in after school tutoring programs, sports and guided recreation, Jacson and his team keep them out of the streets and protected from being easy targets for drug trafficking. A safe haven for children within their community.

At each encounter I have with the children, they inspire me with their unconditional happiness and immense love, towards me, eachother, and everyone they meet. When I go there, no matter what or how much I bring, I leave with so much more joy.

However, this vital after-school program cannot continue without your support. All it takes is 10-15 thousand dollars per year to sustain this program, approximately 20 dollars per child per month.

That’s why together with my school club: The Hope Club, I am launching our Sponsor Program. We are seeking 60 sponsors—one for each child—who are willing to build a meaningful connection with a child from Morro dos Prazeres. As a sponsor, you'll have the chance to get to know your sponsored child through correspondence, share in their dreams, and follow their journey. With your monthly contribution of only $20, you provide academic support, physical activities, a daily meal, and—most importantly—guided mentorship and hope for a brighter future.
