HELP US BRING CLEAN WELL WATER AND SAFE LATRINES TO ST. LEO’S PARISH IN KINSHASA, CONGO

At St. Leo’s, parishioners and neighbors gather throughout the week for Mass, ministry, and community meetings, but the parish is lacking basic infrastructure. St. Leo’s does not have a source of fresh drinking water or sanitary latrines! That’s right, in 2021 our brothers and sisters at St. Leo’s and the surrounding neighborhood do not enjoy the common necessities that we oftentimes take for granted. The impact of these unsanitary conditions manifests itself in chronic health problems and results in the pollution of the surrounding parish grounds.
The Knights of Columbus Council #9597 at Our Lady of Fatima Parish in Lakewood, Colorado, is putting faith into action to help St. Leo’s resolve these problems. Our Project Team is working with our local pastor, Father Henri Tshibambe, who is also from the Congo, and St. Leo’s pastor, Father Djim Lumu Mutombo. We are calling on our fellow Knights, families, friends, and all those of goodwill to help St. Leo’s drill a fresh water well and build functioning sanitary latrines for use by the parish and the community.
We are raising funds to build sanitary latrines, to drill a well, install a powered pump, and build a gravity-feed water pressure system; the parishioners of St. Leo’s will also be providing labor and materials. We need $20,000 to accomplish this goal. Our local Knights and our parish have pledged $5000. Two generous donors have already donated $5000 each to help our brothers and sisters at St. Leo's.
