My Volunteer Nursing Trip in Panama

My Story
Hi there! My name is Paula and I have been working as an Emergency Department Registered Nurse for four years. Here I am (in case you've forgotten what I look like or are seeing me for the first time!) with some of the equipment I use on a day to day basis at my current job.
Through a lighthearted conversation at work with one of the physicians, I voiced a calling to volunteer my time somewhere in either Central or South America. It was serendipitous that he had previously volunteered as a doctor through an organization called Floating Doctors. This non-profit works out of a central hub in Bocas Del Torro, Panama to provide medical care to
isolated communities- often through the use of boats to transport the crew and supplies. I followed my instinct and have been given the opportunity to volunteer as a nurse for four weeks in late January- February.

For some of these communities, Floating Doctors is their only access to medical care, both preventative and acute care.  I encourage you to click on the link above that takes you directly to their website to check out some of the stories and give you a better idea of the organization. Also, you can follow this video link to see a day in the life of this organization. The video is not in english but you still get the full experience, I promise!

Why I Need Your Help!

Because although I wish showing up and smiling and volunteering my time and work was enough- it is a non-profit organization that needs to stay afloat somehow!
Each volunteer is responsible for the following costs:

-$400 each week x 4 weeks = $1,600
-> Fuel costs for mobile deployment of boats
-> Clinic costs for set up, medications, glasses
-> Housing and food for this girl
-$900 round trip flight

For an amazing fund raising total of $2,500!

I will be covering other expenses like travel insurance, odds and ends, vaccinations etc. etc, the list is growing.

I know this is a huge goal but a girl has to dream BIG right? And if the universe fills me with abundance and I somehow go over this goal; all of the extra will be donated directly to the organization.

Why You Should Donate

Besides the warm, fuzzy, glowing feeling of know you contributed to making hundreds of peoples lives a bit healthier and happier?

If that is not enough, perhaps the following incentives will work?
- Donate $1+ dollars and receive a shout out on ye ol' Facebook
- Donate $50+ dollars and receive a post card during my trip sent straight to your door from Panama
- Donate $100+ dollars and receive a hand written letter half way through my trip, disclosing all the coolest details
-Donate $150 + and receive a personal phone call on my return back to the mother land to answer any and all questions about the trip

And in addition, I will just be so thankful to have you as a part of this journey with me. I know it is going to be a fullfilling, humbling, joyous, experience, and I feel so fortunate to be able to offer my positive light, energy, and sunshine to the foundation and each community member I touch.
