I’m taking part in the 38 mile Blue ride, one of the routes of the Tour de 4 on 6th September 2026, the cycling event launched by Sir Chris Hoy following his Stage 4 cancer diagnosis.
But I’m not just taking part riding just any old bike, I’ll be riding the handmade Chopper style bike that I made over 55 years ago for my O level metalwork exam! It's a unique bike...but with only 3 gears and a laid back riding position, a hilly 38 miles will prove challenging.
The event is about showing that a diagnosis doesn’t define a person and highlights what life with Stage 4 cancer looks like:
Strength, Resilience, Determination.
It brings together people living with Stage 4 cancer, alongside friends, families and supporters, to ride side by side and raise vital funds.
I’ve got a personal reason for taking part in the Tour de 4 and raising funds for Prostate Cancer UK. Last year, during a routine health check, I discovered that I also had prostate cancer, despite not having any symptoms.
I’m happy to say early diagnosis means my treatment was successful. Prostate Cancer UK offered me much support during my diagnosis and treatment and I’m happy to be able to give something back to them.
If you’re able to donate or share, I’d be incredibly grateful. Every contribution goes to charities supporting people affected by stage 4 cancer, providing vital support and care.
