She is a very private person who never asks for anything, walks many miles a day to get to places that offer services such as food donations and never complains. I have personally paid a chimney company to look at her chimney which cannot be used as is and needs an insert which will cost around $2,000 for complete installation.
Then next she needs a roof (repair or replacement?) which now damages her electrical wiring which has shorted out her microwave and other appliances. I’m not sure how much electrical costs she will incur to fix the damaged wiring after the roof is fixed.
She owns an older car but it is not running so she walks everywhere including up a steep hill to carrying heavy laundry. She is on one social program that allows her four taxi vouchers a month (two round trips). She receives Meals on Wheels and her church has helped her in the past but they cannot afford to help with these major expenses. She is not in need of a retirement home; she just needs help keeping her home in repair.
If you would consider helping me help my lovely neighbor I would so appreciate your assistance. Sometimes it takes a village.
The Marin Center for Independent Living and their Executive Director, Kathleen Woodcock, will be paying the Vendors hired to do the home repairs necessary on behalf of the senior neighbor.
