On August 16th, a man came into my mom's store in Los Angeles's Chinatown and stole her purse while she was closing the store. In it contained several weeks' worth of cash earnings, her wallet, keys, and driving glasses. It's been incredibly tough for her, not just emotionally but financially too. My mom could really use your support.
Unfortunately I am away in New York, but I’m trying my best to be helpful.
So far, I've only been able to get the word out about the incident on social media. Many have reached out with very thoughtful support. Many have also requested that I set up a Gofundme, so this is it.
My heart broke to hear that my mom was carrying over $7,000 in cash. She was just on her way to deposit all that hard earned money to the bank.
Unsurprisingly, LAPD has still not reached out to us regarding the man who robbed my mom. The robber was last seen at Union Station the same night and we are not hopeful that we'll be getting the money back from him.
This fundraiser will help her pay for this month's rent and any other invoices that sustain this 15 year old business. My mom is a dearly beloved member of the Chinatown community. Her self run business continues to provide affordable and fresh produce to the neighborhood of Chinatown through the heat of the summer and survived the pandemic.
For anyone who loves this community and the work my mom does, please consider donating what you can. If you are in LA, also consider visiting my mom at her store at 658 N Broadway "Yue Wa Market".
Thank you.
