Hello everyone; my name is Raphael Banoub!
This January, I have been blessed with an incredible opportunity to join Coptic Orphans in their annual Serve to Learn mission trip to Egypt. As a Serve to Learn volunteer, I will spend three weeks serving orphans in the rural villages of Upper Egypt. Children who have lost their fathers in Egypt lead burdensome lives and are often forced to start working at a young age to provide for their families or are set up for early marriages; these children are considered orphans in Egyptian culture. My time in Egypt will be dedicated to serving these children with the love of Christ through various activities, including teaching them English and establishing connections through quality time and home visitations.
This trip holds great significance to me, as it is a chance to reconnect to my heritage and roots. Since I was raised here in America, I have not been exposed to my culture outside of the church. This trip will give me a first-hand experience of my heritage's rich historical and religious aspects. I am genuinely excited to fully immerse myself in what it means to be Egyptian while also serving the children of Egypt.
Your generosity will go a long way in making this trip possible for me. Your donation will go towards the following:
- Supplies for the children: I am tasked with bringing school supplies and teaching materials to facilitate daily lessons.
- Gifts and games for the children: We will visit three to four families in their homes each night, where we will play games with the children. We will leave the children small gifts or board games to keep after we go.
- Sponsoring a child, upon my return back home I can still have a lasting impact on a child.
- Some travel expenses: part of the airfare.
Please keep me in your prayers as I prepare for this trip. Thank you so much for your loving support.
