Hi, I'm Carrie and my dear friend is going through a situation that is probably way more common than I'd hope but just really incredibly awful. She decided in October that she had had enough of her crappy marriage, that it was time to take her life back. She wants to be able to care for her children in a consistent manner that is just not possible with her inconsistent and emotionally abusive partner.

Unfortunately when she let her husband know that their marriage was over, he doubled down on all the classic moves. He cut her off financially, removing her from joint accounts and credit cards so that she has no way to leave. She can't book a hotel room, she can't rent a car. He is quite literally holding all of the cards in his hands. He has family that can help him financially, she does not. He is gainfully employed, she has been a stay at home wife and mom for 15 years.

Please help me in supporting my friend so that she can find temporary housing, hire a lawyer and get the process moving so she can start her life over. It is incredibly likely that she will get a fair amount in spousal and child support but she will not have access to any of that until divorce proceedings are under way and she cannot even afford to file the paperwork let alone hire a lawyer to make sure she's protecting herself as well as she can.

We are still actively searching out agencies that may be able to help her in her situation. She seems to be hitting road blocks as there has not been physical abuse, but we will continue to work that side of things as well.

I have booked her in a hotel for the next few nights but we need to get her some money to rent a car as her husband didn't want her name on the titles of either of their cars and is refusing to give her the keys to either of them.
