Dear friends,

My uncle Leif has spent over 40 years in Nepal and has become a source of support for many families there, including my friend Doma. Through his dedicated work, families have gained access to education and vital resources that would otherwise be out of reach.

I want to share a story that touches my heart deeply, about my friend Doma, a young woman from Nepal, and her family, which includes her mother and younger sister Sonam (Brita, my midwife colleague and friend, and I have been sponsoring Sonam's education for several years).

Doma has become like a family member to me over the years, and I see her dreams and ambitions.

Her life is a story of responsibility, sacrifice, and an unwavering struggle for a better future. Doma is not just a daughter and a sister; she is a pillar of strength for her family, a symbol of hope, and a dreamer of a brighter future.

Doma's mother runs a small restaurant, but it barely provides enough to support them. With her mother's health issues, Doma has had to take on the responsibility for the entire family.

Their business is far from what we might imagine when we think of restaurants. Doma's mother's restaurant is a tiny space, only 2x3 meters, with a curtain serving as a door. It has two gas burners and seating for 4-6 guests. Washing dishes happens on the ground in a basin in the courtyard.

As Doma expresses in her letter: "I want to take responsibility for my family and have big dreams for my future, but without help, it's hard to see a way forward."

Doma now has an opportunity to work abroad in Greece, which could change their lives in many ways, especially by providing them with economic stability and the chance to break the cycle of poverty that so many families in Nepal are trapped in.

The major challenge is the cost of the visa, airfare, and other necessary expenses. The total cost to make this a reality amounts to nearly 85,000 SEK, a sum her family cannot afford.
