August 10, 2021- a day my family will always remember. Hello, my name is Kenyetta Williams. My family unexpectedly lost JF Lee Jr at age 34, my soulmate and lifelong partner of 12 years. JF and I come from very humble beginnings. We always spoke of our goals and dreams. We both worked hard to break the stigma associated with being from poor single mother households. JF not only was my partner but an incredible father to our 3 children Julia (9), JF III (7) and Joshua (5) and step-father to my oldest son Romone (16). JF and I worked hard to provide the type of life that were dreams to us as children. He meant the world to us and his loss has been devastating and life altering in ways I'm just beginning to understand.
Currently I am in a position where I need to cover the costs of raising my 4 children alone. JF and I worked alternating shifts, to ensure that a parent was home all the time. We had a structure that worked effectively in our household. Now that structure is gone and the burden falls on me alone.
Two weeks after the death of JF my car was totaled and though it's another hurdle, I'm thankful all parties could walk away healthy, my heart could not take another loss. So now I have had to put school off this semester and I am working 2 jobs but need to be home with my kids when school is over for the day. This limits me financially and this is where you, the caring people in our community can help.
JF and I became support systems for others and in turn leaned on each other but we did not build one up outside of each other. A family member said this to me and it has stuck in my heart…..
"Cousin, if you don't put your hand out when you're falling, how can anyone catch you before you fall?"
I’m putting my hand out now. I have to be brave in a world alone. I lost my partner, confidant, best friend, protector and provider. I'm devastated and scared, but courageous.
My fundraising goal is $10,000, Here’s what the money will go for:
-We have to move to a more affordable home at the end of September but I need money for moving expenses.
-My car was totaled recently so I need to purchase a car.
I hope and pray that my story will open your hearts to give.
"For it is in Giving that we Receive". From Prayer of St. Francis.
Sincerely Thank You!
