About Me
Hello everyone — my name is Basel, and I live and work full-time in Ghent, Belgium.
For more than 22 months, since the war in Gaza began, I’ve been doing everything I can to support and keep my family safe. I have been sending about €1,100 every month to cover only the most basic needs — flour, oil, and food. After nearly two years of this ongoing nightmare, I have completely exhausted all my savings and resources. Life here in Europe is very expensive, and I can no longer carry this burden alone.
I’ve given everything I had to keep my family alive — now I need your help so they don’t lose everything.
This is my family who you would be helping:
This is a picture of my father and my brothers:
My father, Fouad, is 55 years old.
Mustafa is 16 years old.
Yahya is 12 years old.
My mother, Tahreer, is 47 years old.
My sister, Asil, is 23 years old.
Our Story:
It’s hard to put into words the pain we’ve endured. We once lived a simple, peaceful life in a warm home filled with love and safety, dreaming of a bright future together. But the war turned our lives upside down, turning our dreams into a never-ending nightmare.
Our family’s tragedy began with the ground invasion of Khan Younis. On a cold morning, terror struck when soldiers stormed an area that was supposed to be safe, firing at anyone who moved. My family was trapped inside their home for long, terrifying hours, unsure if they would make it out alive.
After many brave attempts, my parents and siblings managed to escape with some of our neighbors, heading toward Rafah in search of shelter from danger. There, they had no home to protect them, no belongings, nothing at all — they had left everything behind with no money or supplies. That day, my brother and I sent about €2,000 to help them buy a tent and some basic necessities so they could keep going in the harshest of circumstances.
Today, after more than 22 months of war and displacement, my family is still struggling every single day to secure a simple shelter, food, and medicine. They urgently need your support to keep surviving.
“A small corner inside the tent where my family tries to prepare meals with whatever they have.”
“This is all they have now after losing their home and belongings.”
“Despite the pain and hardship, they keep fighting to make it through each day.”
My family was forced to leave everything behind in Rafah once again, after the occupation forced over 1.5 million Gazans to flee from Rafah to the Khan Younis camps. This tragedy greatly increased my family’s suffering. They tried to save whatever they could, but the occupation caught them off guard, leaving them to flee with nothing. The situation was made even worse by the lack of transportation, the high cost of buying necessities, fuel shortages, and the destruction of nearly 90% of civilian cars and public transport, leaving life in Gaza in ruins.
Every donation, no matter how small, helps bring hope to our people and supports families in rebuilding their lives amidst this hardship.
On July 28, a house near my family’s tent in the Khan Younis Mawasi It is a safe area, as the occupation army said, but my family was injured inside it. was targeted. As a result, my entire family had to be rushed to the hospital. My younger brothers and my parents were injured, and my sister lost her right leg due to this attack. Shrapnel flew everywhere, destroying all the tents and severely wounding my family. They are now suffering greatly from their injuries, and my sister’s amputation has added immense hardship to our lives.
How your donations will help:
* Daily food and essential supplies (flour, oil, bread, basic groceries).
* Costs of displacement and moving to safer areas.
* Medical needs for my sister and support for the whole family.
I have given everything I had for nearly two years to keep them alive and safe. Now, I can no longer do it alone — I need your help.
Please, if you can, donate and help me keep my family alive. Every euro, every dollar, truly makes a difference. Even the smallest contribution will mean food on the table or medicine for my sister.
If you cannot donate, please share this campaign with your friends, family, and community. Your support and kindness can save lives.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for your compassion
