Fund, a 501c3 non-profit that supports orphans and other children in need.
On our last trip to Africa, several Living Water Children's Fund board
members met Greyson and were impressed with his fortitude. We were not surprised to learn that he is a favorite teacher among the students at Mitindo, a Center in Mwanza, Tanzania, serving children - many of whom are orphans, who are blind, hearing impaired, or born with albinism. Greyson has lived his life, dependent on others for mobility. He well deserves the opportunity for independence that a motorized wheelchair will give him. Please join us in supporting Greyson!
Hello. I am Greyson Jasson Biteya from Misenyi district, Kagera region in Tanzania. I am a 30-year old male. l was the fourth child in the family of seven children. Four of us were born with a physical disability. Doctors told my parents there was no hope for improvement. When I was 11, I went to a special school with my younger brother, also disabled. We felt good to meet other children with physical disabilities. We studied very hard and did well in our examinations. By then we had one wheelchair that we used to share. Unfortunately it was broken when we were in our third year. It was very hard to get another wheelchair, because it was too expensive and difficult to find. We then had to ask for help from fellow pupils. We had lives of ''being carried on back'' from place to place. In 2008, we succeeded in obtaining two wheelchairs. Of course we were very happy for it made it so much easier to move.
We had good exam scores and in 2010 we were both selected to join Shinyanga Secondary School. Our fellow students there were very kind to us. Our performance continued to be good, and we did well in the form four National Exams. After that, my brother and I were separated. I was sent to Teachers College and my brother continued with A-level studies. He died when he was in form six in August of 2015. That event pained me much, for we used to share many things together.
In 2016,I completed my teaching course and I performed well. I stayed at home for three years without employment. Then in 2019 I got a government job as a primary school teacher here at Misungwi district at Mitindo Primary School for children with special needs.
I have a wheelchair now, but I am not able to push it myself. I am entirely dependent on others for mobility. Although. I am grateful for those who assist me in performing my day-to-day routine. I would like a modern, more assistive electric wheelchair so that I could get around the school, my town, and my home under my own power.
Money raised will go toward the purchase of an electric wheelchair andother assistive equipment for Greyson.
