My Cousin Koan

Donation protected
This is my cousin Koan. Koan has a severe learning disability and he communicates using Makaton sign language (he is non-verbal). He’s truly unique, and his light shines brightly. His favourite things are rice cakes, hugs, and game shows.

My little cuzzo has been through more in his five years than most people I know. He’s overcome countless medical challenges, procedures and diagnoses, and is under the care of 24 different medical, therapy and support teams.

I see the barriers that he faces in his life and unfortunately, there aren't a lot of ways I can make a direct impact in his life since he lives in the UK. So when I signed up for my first half marathon ever, I immediately knew who I wanted to raise money for. After a long conversation with my aunt and uncle, we decided that I could help Koan in two really important ways: Firstly, I want to raise money to buy him a specialist buggy so he can explore the world, like every five year old should be able to and secondly, he desperately needs weekly specialist speech therapy to help develop his communication skills and understanding. Without these, he may experience more exclusion and frustration. These are $100 a session, so six months worth would cost $2600.

I appreciate all of your support to help my wonderful cousin. I know his parents do too. If you have any questions that I can answer, please let me know and I'll be happy to answer them!
