My Champion boy’s 1st birthday blessing

Atticus made it to his big one year birthday!!

For those that don’t know, this is very special because our sweet boy was born with unexplained severe brain injury that has been presenting worse as he develops. At first we were prepared for him not to survive birth but our gracious Lord had a different plan for him. There are still many challenges he faces and there is no possibility that he will be cured or improve in his condition unless The Good Lord gives us a miracle. Steven and I have accepted that he may not have a normal life expectancy but we are humbled by and thankful for the time we do have. Regardless of him having a miraculous change in condition we  remain committed to loving him as he is, celebrating the good moments he has and keeping him as comfortable as possible with our palliative care team. 

That being said, the brain injury causes more than just seizures. It affects his respiratory system, his heart and his development of fine and gross motor skills. We have been so blessed to have insurance cover most of his needs but we still spend a significant amount on medications that are not covered and equipment that helps us give him a quality life.

We just ask that if any of our friends and family would like to get him something special for his birthday that he is able to use then this would have the greatest impact on his life and our life as a family. Nothing is expected but we would be most grateful to all who have a heart for our champion!!
