Hi, my name is Irin Susan Sunny.
I never imagined I would be writing something like this, asking for help to save my own brother.
My younger brother, Ibin Sunny Mathew, is just 22 years old. He was a final-year BTech Computer Science student at Amal Jyothi College, Kanjirapally. He had dreams, plans, and a beautiful future ahead of him.
Everything changed in November last year when he was diagnosed with severe aplastic anemia, a life-threatening condition where the body stops producing blood cells.
We started his treatment at Believers Hospital, Thiruvalla, and later moved to CMC Vellore hoping for better care. But repeating tests and delays made his condition worse. His body became very weak, and he developed multiple infections. He was admitted to the ICU several times, and by March 2026, he is on a ventilator fighting for his life.
The only hope to save him was a bone marrow transplant (BMT).
I was tested and found to be his match. As a sister, there was no second thought—I was ready to do anything to save him. On March 2, I donated my stem cells.
But just when we thought there was hope, his condition suddenly worsened after radiation. His blood pressure dropped drastically, and doctors told us he was almost gone… that he was only being sustained by machines and medicines.
Those were the darkest days of our lives.
But we didn’t give up. We prayed. We held on.
For days, there was no improvement. Then slowly, like a miracle, his vitals started improving. Very little, but enough to give us hope again.
His friends and classmates came forward and donated white blood cells continuously for 10 days. Their love and support kept him going.
On Easter Sunday, something we will never forget happened—he regained consciousness.
Today, he is still on a ventilator. He is very weak. His muscles have lost strength, and even small movements are difficult. He continues to face complications like infections, bleeding, and clotting issues.
Since November, we have spent over ₹1 crore on his treatment. We are a middle-class family—our parents, Sunny Mathew and Salu Mathew, are school teachers in a government-aided school in Pathanamthitta. We have used all our savings and received immense support from friends, family, and my brother’s college community.
But the treatment is still ongoing.
We now have ₹40 lakhs pending, and the hospital is pressing us to clear the bills so that his treatment can continue without interruption.
We have reached a point where we cannot go forward alone.
I am a new mother to my 11-month-old baby, Rihanna. Every day, I stand between hope and fear—holding my child in one hand and praying for my brother’s life with the other.
Ibin has already fought so hard. He came back from the edge of death. We believe he still has a chance.
But we need your help.
Any contribution, no matter how small, can help us continue his treatment and give him a chance to live, recover, and return to the life he deserves.
Please keep my brother in your prayers and support us in any way you can.
With hope and gratitude,
Irin Susan Sunny
(on behalf of our family)
