MY AUNT KILLED BY A BRITISH SOLDIER, HELP ME ACHIEVE JUSTICE

Donation protected
My name is Esther Njoki, I am the niece of Agnes Wanjiru who was murdered by a British soldier in Kenya in 2012. My family and I have been fighting for justice for her murder ever since, but both the British and Kenyan authorities have made it very difficult for us to do this. We have tried everything to find out the truth of what happened to Agnes and bring the soldier responsible to justice but 13 years later, the person who committed the terrible crime against my aunt is able to live freely while we suffer the consequences of her murder every day. It is especially sad for Agnes' daughter, Stacy, who was only 5 months old when Agnes was murdered and is now 14.

The British government has made many promises, including at a a recent meeting between the Secretary of State for Defence and my family. But so far these promises have been completely empty. The Kenyan criminal investigation has been dragging on with little evidence of meaningful progress and we know very little about what has been done and when the criminal process is likely to conclude. Although recently there have been reports that a charging decision is due to be made, my family has not been given any updates about this and we don’t know whether meaningful steps are actually being taken. Anyway, a charging decision is only one step towards justice and an extensive criminal process, including extradition and a trial, all still lay ahead. My family also has so many questions which have been left unanswered by the British Government – why did the British army do nothing for 10 years? Did the British army cover up my sister’s death? What steps are they taking to ensure nothing like this ever happens again?

I am now trying to raise funds so that I can travel to the UK to meet with MPs, Members of the House of Lords, activists, media and anyone who is willing to help me, so that I can hopefully get closer to achieving justice for the murder of Agnes. The funds would solely be used to cover the cost of my travel and expenses in the UK so I can do this campaigning work which I believe is necessary to achieve progress in circumstances where my family and I have been in limbo for far too long.

Anything you can give to help will be greatly appreciated. It is so unfair that the authorities who have the power to finally resolve this case keep making excuses and shirking their responsibility. It has been too long with no action and I am determined to do everything possible to bring this terrible chapter in our lives to a positive close.

Any funds raised that exceed the expenses of such a trip will go to the trust fund set up for Agnes’ daughter, Stacy which is used to pay for her education.

Thank you for reading this and for supporting the important campaigning work I need to do in the hope of finally achieving some progress on justice for my aunt – I am grateful.
